SONY M-OLED Product Information 2021-09-17

The brightness of earlier SONY M-OLED products generally ranged between 300 to 500 cd/m2 and was mainly used in the electronic viewfinders of digital cameras. They were also used in outdoor rangefinders due to their excellent quality. As a result, SONY began increasing the brightness of its own products from 500 cd/m2 to 1,500 cd/m2. More recent M-OLED products now have a brightness of up to 3,000 cd/m2. There is however still demand for brighter products for outdoor applications. SONY responded by publishing a roadmap for increasing M-OLED brightness to 5,000 cd/m2 in the future. The roadmap for increases in brightness by SONY is shown below.

Latest information on to the S series (3,000 cd/m2) that SONY has now put into mass production:

The above table showed that SONY M-OLED is currently available in 0.23 / 0.39 / 0.5 / 0.7 sizes. Products with a brightness of 3,000 cd/m2 rated for 60 to 120 fps are now in or will soon be in mass production for every size. Outdoor products will have more options with resolutions ranging from NHD to FHD. SONY plans to release a product with 5,000 cd/m2 by 2023. Sources say that the product will have a resolution of 1920 *1200, brightness of 5,000 cd/m2 and output 120 fps in the 0.7” form factor.
