Introducing the SONY IMX485 Image Sensor 2019-08-14

SONY has announced the release of the new IMX485 type 1/1.2 4K-resolution back-illuminated CMOS sensor with outstanding low-light performance. The new sensor type was developed by SONY for security cameras to meet the rapidly growing demand from a variety of applications such as anti-theft, disaster alert, traffic monitoring systems or commercial complexes.

Demand is increasing for the installation of security cameras in different settings. The demand for security cameras that offer a higher level of image resolution and detection performance is now greater than ever. Significant growth is also expected in the future for image recognition cameras used for anomaly detection and AI behavioral analysis. Sony is addressing this need by releasing a series of 4K-resolution CMOS sensors that deliver superior  image recognition and detection performance as well as exceptional low-light performance all at the same time. The expanded sensor line-up from SONY provides high-quality imagery for users under different scenarios and expands the scope of application for security cameras. 
The IMX485 delivers superior low-light performance. The cutting-edge pixel technology used in this sensor provides effective noise reduction. Low-light performance is also 3.3 times higher (Note 1) than the previous generation of 4K sensors, Excellent image recognition and detection in dark environments makes this the optimum choice for high-end 4K-resolution security cameras. SONY expects this new product to satisfy the needs of the growing security camera market.
